Black and Geaxld Magic!!!

Hola, peeps!

I'm REALLY REALLY trying to get into this blogging more regularly thing, so far life is just keeping me busy. Dealing with a sick parent and grandparent at the same time is NO JOKE! Anyway, I'm coming today with a new tutorial I did today whilst readying myself to support my beloved hometown NFL team. I love anything New Orleans, so it's only natural that I support my Saints in Black & Gold. I was going to actually record this and get a jump on starting to make YouTube videos, but just as I was setting up I got a phone call, so instead I took pictures to put up here.  BOO! Maybe another day.

I have recently started using Muzy to make these composite pictures and so far I'm liking it. It's super simple and easy, I can just post my pix, add different filters, give it a title, and it's done! So here goes nothing:

So first I did the usual concealer and foundation jazz, then I did my eyebrows and left my eyes for the next thing on the to-do list. Last would be my lips and cheeks, something that would compliment but not compete with my shadows.



First off, prime your eyes to keep  your shadows from creasing. Then add bases of appropriate colors to make your colors extra bold.

Then start off with the black shadow. This was different for me because I usually work from the inner corner to the outer, but I have seen several YouTube videos where it worked the other way around so I decided to try it out. I was not disappointed!

So then I blended out the edges of my black shadow to my liking, added a soft white/gold as a highlight color, making sure to not use to much, making my eyebrows look like they got into a flour-ball fight. I then added the 2 shades of gold on the inner halves of my lids. Then blend blend blend, make it look good.

After that just throw on the extra touches: line upper lid, waterline, outer lower lid. Add mascara to top and bottom lashes.Then all there was to do was add bronzer and my lip stuffs. BAM! Like Emeril, you're done!

Just some pics

Been busy with stuff like my mom being sick, getting engaged, the works... haven't really had much time for blogging, but as usual, I want to get back into it. Ideally I will get to blogging 1-2 times per week, and I'm also supposed to help my boyfriend (I don't think I'll get used to having a fiance) start his own blog, so make sure to check that out as well! Anyway, here's some pics of recent makeup I've done.

Trying out my Lime Crime

I just bought Mirror Mirror and Empress shadows from Lime Crime since they are discontinuing their loose shadows. It's a shame, because I am really liking them so far. It seems that tokidoki has also stopped making their shadows, which has e totally bummed because Killer Candy is my favorite purple EVER!!! I'll have to try to stock up an extra 1 or 2 before they sell out everywhere online, I already can't get them from Sephora anymore. :(

Follow Your Nose

Hola peeps! So I entered yet ANOTHER MakeUp Bee contest, this time Inglot is hosting a tropical theme. Initially I wanted to do a look based on all of the awesome flowers I had seen on my trips to Ecuador and Costa Rica.

I had such high hopes! :(

Alas, my first attempt at that had disastrous results (in my opinion) and I decided I needed to go another route. I decided to find another means on inspiration, and being that I am an animal lover, that's the way I went. First I was gonna go with a fish, but then I decided on a toucan. Since my name is Sam, why not base my look on Toucan Sam, the mascot of Froot Loops? So I googled pictures of toucans and pick out an awesome one to gather inspiration from. And here goes a pretty much step-by-step of how it went:

• Slather my eyes with e.l.f. primer and NYX eyeshadow base with my finger. My face is also covered in Hard Candy bronzer, I figured if it's tropical, you gotta be tan and golden (bronzed, if you will). My lips are left over from the first look, and by the time I finished my makeup the second time, I decided not to changed them. Initially I was going to paint them black. This is Maybelline's Coral Crush with a bit of MAC's Magenta Madness pigment (which i then accidentally spilled all over myself and my bed) in the middle

• With my MUFE Flash palette, add yellow detailing across my upper eyelid, then went over it with Sugarpill's Buttercupcake and another yellow from the BH Cosmetics' 120 palette, 1st edition.

• I then went in and added the rest of the colors: Sugarpill's Asylum, NYX's Jade Pearl and Baby Blue Pearl. As you can see I applied it really messy, I was only careful with the edges where the colors met.

• I then went in with my Maybelline Master Precise eyeliner pen and UD's Perversion and added black details/eyeliner to make it look more like a toucan. I think it was at this point that I forgot so take more step by step pictures. Whoops! I also took the black from the flash palette and drew a black line down the middle of my lips. Then I just added mascara and cleaned up the edges with a makeup wipe! TADA, I'm done!

Don't the plants just scream "TROPICAL!" ? Instead of "my front yard!"

Happy Fourth

So, this is a few days late, but I decided to share my Independence Day look with everyone. No pix of me doing it, but I'm thinking of revisiting it soon for a night out in the near future, and maybe a few tweaks on the execution. Hope you guys enjoy!

My mom saw my in this makeup and my sky high blue suede heels and commented that I was my own Lady Gaga... While I was marveling at the fact that she knew who that was, she went on to say that I looked crazy, hahaha!!! Oh well, everyone's a critic.

Let Them Eat Cake

Yo peeps! It's been a while, but as I start to unwind from my difficult week, it seemed to be the perfect opportunuty to head to my local hookah bar and pop out a blog or two. This one is gonna be about the MakeUp Bee/Lime Crime contest I entered. With the release of their newest D'Antoinette collection, Lime Crime decided to host a contest. They wanted whimsical looks based upon the life and style of Marie Antoinette. I was really excited about this contest, especially since I had played Marie Antoinette in a class project. I had it made until I was "beheaded" during our reenactment of the French Revolution.

After researching her more carefully and looking at tons of painting of her, I decided to go with a wild child modern day look. I had a lot of fun with this and hope you guys enjoy it too. I didn't take any pictures during application, but I took tons of picture afterward for everyone to see. I call this look 'Cake Eater', although it is not believed that she ever told anyone "Let them eat cake."

I figured I would go with an extremely girly color scheme: pink, white, and silver. Fortunately the white wasn't too much of a stark contrast against my skin, I guess I'm getting better at my blending, YAY! :)

Rasta Baby

Just a quick look I threw together, I tried it recently when I was in Costa Rica, but it was totally rushed then so I wanted to give it another go. I think even though I messed up it turned out pretty well and I can't wait to try it out for a night on the town.

Initially I was going to use all matte colors for this, but on a whim I decided to use the NYX green to fill in the outer corner. I had never used it, and it seemed like a good bright (but not neon or lime) green. While I loved the color, I didn't want only the outer corners to have a shimmer, so I went over the Love+ with Asylum and over the Buttercupcake with the Sephora gold. The green was pretty stubborn once it was in place on the lid, so I ended up mixing the black with green instead of just putting black on my outer V and crease. Fortunately, I still like how the greenish black turned out.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the precision of the Maybelline liner! They don't call it Master Precise for nothing! It's really good for making thin but noticeable lines. I'm not great at liquid liner, but this felt tip is super easy to work with, build up, and make awesome finishing touches to your look.

I'm a Heartbreaker!

Hola, peeps!!!

So last Friday, Sugarpill Cosmetics released the last palette of their "Heart" line. This one is the Heartbreaker, featuring bright colors that are sure to make your eyes pop and make heads turn! Needless to say, I stayed up until 2am to order as soon as it was available. I got my shipment super quick, and it was waiting for me on Monday morning. At first I wasn't sure if I felt that they were as bright as what I was hoping for, but after trying them out I would say I am definitely satisfied and can't wait to try new looks with it in the future. Individually, the shadows are $12, but if you buy it in palette form, they're only $34, which is a savings of $14.

THE PLAYERS:

Acidberry: Bright lime green, similar to Sugarpill's Loose shadow in Absinthe, but a little less yellow and a little darker. Swatched pretty sheer, but was easy to work with on my lid.

Velocity: A nice medium blue color, similar to Royal Sugar, but not sparkly. It's also darker than Afterparty.

2am: A medium reddish purple, it's lighter and more red than Poison Plum. When swatched, it was the sheerest color, but shows up on the lid just fine. Love the name of this one, and can't wait to use it more.


Mochi: A light aqua blue, the most opaque of the quad, I feel like it's a bit light for me to use on a regular basis. I guess only time will tell. Swatches super easy, so if you love the color, it will be easy to work with. In the pan it appears similar, but light than Midori, but I don't think they are really comparable in usage.

Right after this, I accidentally stuck my fingernail into Velocity :(
