Happy Fourth

So, this is a few days late, but I decided to share my Independence Day look with everyone. No pix of me doing it, but I'm thinking of revisiting it soon for a night out in the near future, and maybe a few tweaks on the execution. Hope you guys enjoy!

My mom saw my in this makeup and my sky high blue suede heels and commented that I was my own Lady Gaga... While I was marveling at the fact that she knew who that was, she went on to say that I looked crazy, hahaha!!! Oh well, everyone's a critic.

Let Them Eat Cake

Yo peeps! It's been a while, but as I start to unwind from my difficult week, it seemed to be the perfect opportunuty to head to my local hookah bar and pop out a blog or two. This one is gonna be about the MakeUp Bee/Lime Crime contest I entered. With the release of their newest D'Antoinette collection, Lime Crime decided to host a contest. They wanted whimsical looks based upon the life and style of Marie Antoinette. I was really excited about this contest, especially since I had played Marie Antoinette in a class project. I had it made until I was "beheaded" during our reenactment of the French Revolution.

After researching her more carefully and looking at tons of painting of her, I decided to go with a wild child modern day look. I had a lot of fun with this and hope you guys enjoy it too. I didn't take any pictures during application, but I took tons of picture afterward for everyone to see. I call this look 'Cake Eater', although it is not believed that she ever told anyone "Let them eat cake."

I figured I would go with an extremely girly color scheme: pink, white, and silver. Fortunately the white wasn't too much of a stark contrast against my skin, I guess I'm getting better at my blending, YAY! :)

Rasta Baby

Just a quick look I threw together, I tried it recently when I was in Costa Rica, but it was totally rushed then so I wanted to give it another go. I think even though I messed up it turned out pretty well and I can't wait to try it out for a night on the town.

Initially I was going to use all matte colors for this, but on a whim I decided to use the NYX green to fill in the outer corner. I had never used it, and it seemed like a good bright (but not neon or lime) green. While I loved the color, I didn't want only the outer corners to have a shimmer, so I went over the Love+ with Asylum and over the Buttercupcake with the Sephora gold. The green was pretty stubborn once it was in place on the lid, so I ended up mixing the black with green instead of just putting black on my outer V and crease. Fortunately, I still like how the greenish black turned out.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the precision of the Maybelline liner! They don't call it Master Precise for nothing! It's really good for making thin but noticeable lines. I'm not great at liquid liner, but this felt tip is super easy to work with, build up, and make awesome finishing touches to your look.

Colorful Fun-EOTD

So, after watching an awesome video on Youtube, I was inspired to dust off my makeup collection and go bright for no reason at all. I did my own spin on a colorful 80s-inspired look. Here are some pics, and I may sit down, repeat this look and make a tutorial.

Sugarpill Contest Entry... Colorful Winter

Hola, peeps!!! This look came about by me finally getting the guts to actually enter a makeup contest for once. I came close once before when I saw a cool contest that would be inspired by candy, but after I saw my final product...I chickened out! :(  Well this time, I decided to give myself a real shot, and I must say that fairly satisfied with the outcome! Here's a rough step-by-step of how it turned out! (I took pictures along the way, in case I messed up, lol). For my "Colorful Winter Wonderland", I decided to draw a New Years' scene from my hometown, New Orleans. It's fireworks being shot over the St. Louis Cathedral...

First, I drew a rough sketch of my picture in white pencil eyeliner. 

After I was satisfied with the white sketch, I went over the cathedral in black liquid liner.

Since the building is white, I went in with my MUFE Flash color palette and added a white base for the white and gray shadows. For a first try, I started off BIG!!! Imagine trying to draw a white building AT NIGHT! That leads to needing all sorts of shading of white and gray for all the shadows.

To finish the cathedral, I colored in the steeples, colored in the front door, added shutters, and went back over some of the outlines that got smudged. (I forgot to go back over the steeples though... next time.)

After I finished the cathedral, I started on the night sky background. I started at the bottom with a sparkly black to simulate the dark, star-filled sky...

As I got closer to the fireworks on the other side of my face, I switched to a dark blue/black. Both of these darker blues came from the Wet N Wild palette, Blue Had Me At Hello.

Right next to the fireworks, I made the sky the lightest, since the sky would be lit up due to the pyrotechnics. I got 2 lighter blues from NYX, even though I am still mad about their 12th anniversary sale fiasco and will NEVER order anything from their site!!! After I finished the night sky, I went over my original white firework sketches with the NYX jumbo pencil in Milk. This was to help the fireworks standout as much as possible once I colored them in.

I colored in my the biggest starburst with a holographic gold glitter. Unfortunately the flash washed out the color so it mostly looks white still, but if you look closely you can still see some of the gold flecks. Too bad I did this in the middle of the night! :( With natural daylight, I think I could have picked up how awesome it looked in person. Maybe a better camera would have worked too, but I'm working with what I've got.

Since the gold holographic glitter didn't work out too well, I decided to nix the silver glitter I had for another of the bursts. Instead I went in with 3 different Sugarpill colors: Absinthe, Flamepoint, and Asylum. I LOVE Sugarpill, it's so bright, and was perfect for this look. After I touched up the cathedral and night sky again, I was content to say that the pictures below are the final product!!!! Hope you enjoy my efforts! Wish me luck!

We All Live in a Turquoise Submarine...LOTD

Hello, All! New blogs 2 days in a row? I know, shocking! But after trying out my new China Glaze polish, I had to throw on a shirt that matched it, and then my makeup had to match my shirt! I decided on my tie-dye Beatles shirt that features the Yellow Submarine, which is how I chose to label this entry. So here's my look today:

Yeah, sexy, I know. So as promise, I used one of my new Sugarpill shadows here, Royal Sugar. I like that it's super full of shimmer, but it tends to end up swirling in the air as I apply it, and that creeps me out a little for some reason. Maybe I feel like I'll choke on it or something...who knows. I also used Afterparty here, and both are amazing! Amy knows how to make her colors bright and awesome!

I didn't like the polish matte, so I added glitter!

Here's the polish that started it all: China Glaze's Turned Up Turquoise! I also put a coat of nails inc. special effects holographic glitter topcoat in Electric Lane. I then threw on Sally Hansen's No Chip Acrylic topcoat.

I tried something new with my hair, gathered it to one side, twisted it, and put a barrette near the bottom.

I think it turned out pretty well... I may try this again.

NYX Rant!!! Sale = FAIL

Ok, so this unfortunately will be my first makeup blog. It suck that it will start on such a sour note. As many fans of NYX Cosmetics know, there was a 12th anniversary sale on their website yesterday from 2pm to 2am CST. From about 1:45 until today around 5pm their website gave me SOOO much trouble!!!! I spent the first 3 hours trying to h=get to the home page. Then like good companies should, they extended the hours from 5 to 5, since no one was able to get on. So I spent that vast majority of my time from 5pm to 2am just trying to get the stuff added to my cart. From about 2:30 to 4am I filled my basket successfully (finally) and began trying to check out. At 4, I decided I needed sleep more than a good deal and so I went to sleep. I got up again at 8am to try to finish the transaction. I then spent from that time until AFTER the sale was over at 2pm trying to check out!!! While we stayed up all night the ppl at NYX went home and went to sleep, offering no kind of updates or solutions for about a 12hr period. Then call began pouring into the NYX office where it was reported that the sale would NOT be extended and even though we had our stuff in the cart PRIOR to the sale being over, we would not get to take advantage of the sale price. So I spent until about 4pm trying very unsuccessfully to check out still since my cart said the sale prices. When it finally went through with no problems at 6pm, I went to calculate the shipping, and it struck me as odd that I was not being charged fro shipping. This was strange because anything shipped under $50 is charged and I only had $19.20 worth in my shopping cart. That's when I saw my "new and improved" price of $105.00!!!!! You have got to be fucking kidding me! Then the NYX reps want to ignore this whole fiasco and try to placate ppl by forcing US to go to THEM for a 50% off/no shipping coupon. This is NOT cutting it! And even then I tried to give them the benefit of taking the coupon and still picking up a few items, about $30 or so.... But it has been HOURS and I have not gotten any sort of response. I have pretty much given up on them. I really feel like I wasted a day of my life to be scammed... That saddens me because this is my first experience with this company that I have herd so many good things about. And while I may still one day (not today) pick up one of their MILK pencils, it may be a long time if EVER that I decide to buy much more from this company that has disappointed so many...
